Sustainability Education in the East Kootenay
In conjunction with wildlife biologist and agrologist, Peter Davidson, Beargrass Landscape Architecture’s Leslie Lowe, was asked to develop a series of repeatable modules by Clear Sky Meditation Center, BC.
One of the goals of Clear Sky is to reach out to the larger community of the East Kootenays in British Columbia, and to facilitate environmental workshops that would educate the community.
The first series of modules in 2012 was on native grasslands, and included modules on native plants and native seeding. The second series of modules addressed corridors, patches, linkages, connectivity and learning. The application of holistic thinking around sustainable land use management reinforces the positive mission statement of the client. Course goals are designed to encourage the community to engage in an educated dialogue for sustainable and smart solutions for future planning in the East Kootenay region and the Rocky Mountain Trench.
In 2018 our landscape architect Leslie Lowe has given a lecture on Food Forestry at Montana Native Plant Society as well as a Seed Saver workshop.
